Cal Great Geoff McArthur on Coaching, Cal, and Way, Way More

(Cal Rivals, March 7, 2014)

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Coach Geoff McArthur now dedicates himself to Canadian high school football players, teaching them the skills needed to play in the NCAA. In his senior high school season, McArthur led the nation in yards receiving (1,779) and touchdowns (28). He started his D1 career at the tender age of 17 as a “true” freshman at University of California (Berkeley), a rare and possibly first-ever accomplishment at a D1 “skill” position. McArthur then went on to become Cal Berkeley’s all-time leader in catches (202), yards (3,100) and also yards in a single season (1,504). McArthur was an all-American in 2003, finishing second in the country behind Larry Fitzgerald in receiving yards. McArthur played receiver for two first round quarterbacks in Baltimore Ravens’ Kyle Boller and Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers.

Coach McArthur was recruited by the Green Bay Packers of the NFL, but declined due to a knee injury that ultimately ended his career.  But for the knee injury, McArthur was projected to be a second round NFL Draft pick.

Coach McArthur has worked with many of the nation’s premier wide receivers, including Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson and Tennessee Titans’ Lavelle Hawkins. Aside from working with professional athletes, Coach McArthur has tutored many NCAA athletes during his years as a coach: Jordan Payton (UCLA), Byron Moore (University of Tennessee), Kasen Williams (University of Washington), Victor Blackwell (USC), Brice Butler (USC/SDSU), Anthony Denham (Utah), Chris Potter (Boise State), Khalid Stevens (SDSU), Larry Clark (SDSU), Sean Parker (University of Washington), Moody McNeal (USC), Spencer Hagan (Cal), and many more.

Playing is one thing. Coaching is another. And Coach McArthur is every bit as outstanding and dedicated a coach as he is a player.  McArthur is disciplined, analytical, and knowledgeable, and sets high standards for his players. Coach McArthur is a role model and constant reminder of what it takes to play at the highest level.
